Passages International Officially Launches New Online Memorial GeoTag Map Program

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (August 1, 2022) – Passages International has launched a new online Memorial GeoTag Map, allowing families to mark the exact location of scattered remains, buried remains, or any location that they hold dear as a memorial for a loved one. A majority of Passages biodegradable and eco-friendly urns now come with a unique GeoTag code allowing families to pin a location on an online map and create a memorial page on our website in honor of their loved one. This new program is available to families immediately and is included with all applicable products free of charge.

The Memorial GeoTag program was created to answer the question: Where does a family go to pay respects if they select cremation and scatter the cremated remains? With the new Memorial Map, families can visit their personalized memorial page digitally from anywhere in the world. The map will help families mark and return to the exact location that they scattered, if they wish to revisit and commemorate their loved one.

“Having both a physical and digital location for scattering families to visit is a tremendous step forward in non-traditional funerals,” said Passages International President and Co-Founder Darren Crouch. “Our team at Passages has developed this comprehensive program to enhance the scattering process by allowing grieving families to memorialize and share where and how they said farewell to a loved-one."

With the new GeoTag program from Passages, families are able to scatter anywhere they wish, create a memorial page on the Passages website, and place a public pin at an exact address or coordinates on the Memorial Map. This system also shows families memorials from all around the world for people with similar end-of-life values, creating a sense of community and a place to share unique end-of-life rituals.

The NFDA 2021 Consumer Awareness and Preferences Survey found that 44% of cremation families intend to scatter and, according to the 2021 Kates-Boylston (KB) Greening of Funeral Service survey data, 92% of families in America find personalization important in a funeral. Scattering is one of the most popular forms of final disposition.

KB Publications found that over 90% of today’s families think sustainability is important in a funeral. These families are looking for more sustainable end-of-life options and continue to choose cremation over traditional burial. Families value the flexibility and eco-friendliness of cremation, but the old, black plastic temporary container does not line up with their values. Today’s families value contemporary and sustainable products, and biodegradable urns with the GeoTag system are the perfect answer.

Products marked with a barcode and serial number beginning with “GEO-” are eligible for the Memorial Geotag Program and can be used to create a memorial at www.passagesinternational.com/memorial-map.
