- PI: How long has your firm been a Passages customer?
River View: Since 2007.
- PI: What led your firm to offer eco-friendly choices to families?
River View: A desire to meet the needs of our environmentally-minded community. More and more people were asking for green burial and other environmentally-friendly services and merchandise. So our funeral home coupled with our cemetery to begin offering natural funerals and natural burial.
- PI: How have families responded to these alternatives?
River View: Very enthusiastically. Over 25% of our cemetery’s burials are now “natural”, meaning that there is no embalming, no outer burial container, and either a Passages natural burial casket, or sometimes the body is placed directly in the earth, wrapped in an organic, cotton shroud. Families who choose cremation also embrace the broad selection of biodegradable urns.
- PI: What is the most popular Passages product that you offer?
River View: Scattering tubes are very popular. Nearly every family wishing to scatter the cremated remains will purchase one if they are priced sensibly and presented properly. People would much prefer to scatter from a beautiful container than a black, plastic box! A close second would be the woven caskets. Clients find them to be simple and different in appearance from traditional caskets. They also love the fact that they are made from renewable materials and are, of course, biodegradable.
- PI: What is your favorite Passages product and why?
River View: I particularly like the Bamboo urn. It has all the advantages of a traditional, hardwood urn, but in addition to being beautiful, it has the “plus” of being made from a very renewable material – something very important to our environmentally-conscious clients.
- PI: Do you have any feedback from families or your staff in regards to Passages products?
River View: Clients embrace the products and our staff enjoy presenting them, knowing that they are meeting the wishes of the client to have a selection of natural merchandise. We also like the fact that you continue to roll out new products, like the “Turtle”, your latest client favorite!
